På denne nettsiden bruker vi engelsk for å forklare ting bedre.
Bygg din egen nettside og velge et webhotell
The first 3 things you need when planning to build a website are as follows:
- A good and well researched idea.
- A sensible domain name (www.yourwebsitename.no)
- A Webhotell (Hosting)
Let’s examine these 3 important points a little further.
Within the first few seconds of visiting your website, a visitor needs to be shown just enough information to capture their interest, so why not begin by visiting your competitors websites to see how, or even “if” they are doing that. Go ahead and visit a few competitor websites and compare how they are capturing visitors attention, make some notes and then plan how you will do it better than your competitors.
It’s a well known fact that a picture can be worth a thousand words, so choose the images you will use wisely, as one good image can explain an important point within 1-2 seconds.
Choosing a name for your website is another thing you need to think about. You will want to choose a name that matches your brand (if you have one), the content of your website, and is somewhat catchy and easy to remember.
There is a town in Wales called Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch, yes, there really is, no joke, but my point is, if you wanted to make a website about that town you would not want to use the town name as your domain name www.Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch.co.uk as if you did, I don’t think it would get many visitors. Fun fact – Someone actually did – But you get the point!
So now, you’ve got your idea, done your research, and you’ve decided on a domain name, just one thing remains. You need somewhere for your website to “live”, you need a hosting package or what some Norwegians call a Webhotell. Your website is basically a bunch of files, pictures, videos and links etc and all of that takes up disk space and it needs to be available 24×7 so your website is stored on a secure server somewhere in cyberspace or you might call it the cloud.
There are many companies offering web hosting packages in which you can buy both the domain name and the Webhotell together in one package deal, but how do you know which one to choose?
The first thing to realize is that just because we live here in Norge doesn’t mean that we have to have our website hosted here, in fact, most of the larger Norwegian companies have their web hosting elsewhere, mainly on United States servers. They do this for a number of reasons, and also because it’s generally cheaper, even skatteetaten do this (no surprise there!). Of course, despite this, I know there will be some people who would like to keep their web hosting within Norge, so based upon my many years experience with Hosting companies, both here and overseas I will give you my recommendations below as to which companies give the best overall service and value for money, especially for business and private users here in Norway.
Unlike some websites, we are not giving a list of the “Top 10” because there really is no Top 10, and it just makes matters more confusing, which is not very productive, so this is our Top 3 and everything you could possibly need is right there in the list above. If you don’t already have a .no domain then you can go-ahead and get it from One.com
If you already have a .no domain name but are disappointed with your current web host in terms of price, speed, availability or support, then go ahead and sign up to either Hostinger or GreenGeeks (if you are committed to preserving the environment). Transferring your domain over to them is a very simple process and assistance to do that is always available. You notice that all 3 companies offer a free SSL certificate for your website. This is an absolute “must have” because if a visitor comes onto your website and you have no SSL certificate installed, they will receive a warning that your website is NOT secure and they are at risk, so by not having SSL the only visitors to your website will likely be tumbleweed. (Note SSL is the difference between http:// and https:// the s on the end of http means secure).

So now, let’s move on. Assuming that you now have your Hosting under control, the next important steps to think about are Website design and the digital marketing of your website.
